FÍS and the FÍS Film Festival have become an integral part of the Calendar of events for West Cork Education Centre over the past years.

The original pilot project was designed to introduce the medium of film as a support to the Revised Primary School Curriculum.  The pilot ran over a period of three years from March 2000 to March 2003 and involved 28 primary schools in the greater Dublin and Cork areas. Now, FIS is accessible to all schools across the country. FIS is jointly organised by NCTE and the Dublin Institute of Art and Design, Dun Laoghaire.  With effect from 1st June 2012, the role and functions of the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) came under the remit of the PDST. (Professional Development Service for Teachers).

The FÍS initiative is a wonderful example of a project that encourages creativity and imagination among children and their teachers in schools.

The annual West Cork Education Centre FÍS Film Festival attracts young film stars in the making. This ‘Oscars’ event showcases the never ending range of entertaining films which range from animation to historical. The high standard of films entertains the large audiences from schools across the West Cork Region.

The FÍS initiative culminates each year in the annual FÍS Film Festival Awards Ceremony at the Helix Theatre in Dublin. Schools travel from near and far to enjoy the excitement of this event.

Full details available from Harriet McCormack, ICT Dept, West Cork Education Centre on 023-8856756/7.

Training for schools NEW to FÍS is available on request if min numbers are reached.
